Equipped with two powerful Safran Makila 2A1 turbine engines, a sturdy five-blade main rotor and Spheriflex rotor head, the H225 offers long range and fast cruise speeds, along with flight endurance that exceeds five hours and 30 minutes.

Airbus’ Super Puma family – of which the H225 is the latest member – has accumulated more than five million flight hours during operations around the world and in all weather, including icing conditions and highly challenging maritime environments.

The H225 offers comfort for both passengers and crew. Its low vibration and sound levels, and its wide air-conditioned cabin, comfortably accommodate up to 19 passengers on energy-absorbing seats in staggered configurations, allowing for more shoulder space between passengers. 

Pilots are assisted by the H225’s glass cockpit containing electronic instruments for flight information and system monitoring. Outstanding precision and stability are provided by its 4-axis, dual-duplex autopilot, with the automatic flight control system handling automatic approaches as well as search and rescue patterns, along with fully automatic hovering.

The rotorcraft’s integrated maintenance architecture with health and usage monitoring system (HUMS) conducts data recording and proactive monitoring for flight safety enhancement. Airbus’ First Limit Indicator displays the available power in any condition, along with the power margin in all engines operative (AEO) and one engine inoperative (OEI) situations, reducing pilot workload.

H225 avionics and autopilot systems reduce crew workload while enhancing safety, especially in the most demanding mission phases or conditions. 

The H225 is certified for flights in icing conditions, and incorporates a self-deployable emergency floatation device and a traffic collision and avoidance system linked to the autopilot.

In the event of an emergency, large windows push out easily to allow fast egress and efficient access to integrated life rafts. The H225’s safety standards also include a 30-minute run-dry gearbox.

The H225 is the first helicopter in the industry to benefit from an OEM-issued Flight Crew Operating Manual, which describes all the operational procedures to be applied during normal and abnormal or emergency situations, focusing on best use of the automation and aircraft systems forthe H225 in offshore missions.

Based on the Super Puma family’s service experience around the globe, Airbus has developed the H225’s maintenance programme to offer greater flexibility for scheduling inspections. This lets operators forecast their costs more precisely and better manage their flight activity.

As a result, the number and the type of inspections are reduced, different operations can be grouped together and performed on fixed dates, and periodic inspections can occur less frequently, among other benefits.

Concerning the onboard avionics, the number of built-in tests and accompanying documentation allow operators to perform troubleshooting themselves without the need for specific tooling.

Combining the ability to carry 19 passengers in its air-conditioned cabin with its heavy-lift capacity and excellent range, the H225 meets the energy industry’s needs as exploration and production move farther offshore.

The H225 offers an automatic oil rig approach mode called Rig ’N Fly, which provides an unrivalled presentation of the approach to the oil rig. On the navigation display, pilots can see the oil rig waypoint, oil rig radar echo, an automatic identification system (AIS) indication from ships that could represent obstacles near the platform, wind direction and the pilot’s current flight plan.

Interactivity between the digital map and the flight management system allows the pilot to select or modify the safest and most efficient trajectory to land on the oil rig, even late in the approach.

Moreover, the aircraft's role change capacity enables a rapid reconfiguration to over-water search and rescue (SAR) duties benefitting from the wiring for SAR mission equipment such as a hoist.

The H225 is recognised as a reference in SAR operations thanks to a takeoff sequence of less than five minutes; all-weather capability including in full icing conditions; extra long-range capability with auxiliary fuel tanks, leaving its large cabin free for the mission; SAR modes; and autopilot precision.

A wide range of mission equipment is available, such as EOS, searchlights, cabin console, hailer public address system, an automatic identification system (AIS), direction finder, radar, dual hoist and stretchers.

With superior lifting power, endurance and manoeuvrability, the H225 is always ready for the most rigorous utility, aerial work, firefighting and power line missions.

Thanks to the helicopter’s state-of-the-art vehicle monitoring system (VMS), pilots can concentrate fully on the mission ahead. During the transportation of sling loads, the 4-axis autopilot and landing gear design maintain exceptional stability.

Armed with powerful engines and sling capacity of up to 4.75 tonnes, the H225 makes heavy lifting easy, while certified equipment and proven procedures ensure the highest levels of safety.

Typical missions include power line repair; pylon assembly in remote areas; cable-laying; aerial pruning; and air crane missions.

For firefighting missions, solutions include a belly tank, belly water cannon or a 4,000-litre (1,057 gallon) water bombing kit.

Airbus’ Super Puma family has been selected for transportation of heads-of-state and corporate shuttles benefitting from its large cabin, comfort and range. 

The H225 continues this tradition, while offering a higher speed, longer range and increased comfort. Vibration levels are significantly reduced with the new five-blade rotor and state-of-the-art active vibration control system, while comfort is improved with enhanced soundproofing and air conditioning.

Interior layout possibilities include front and rear lounges, galleys and lavatories, along with food service galleys.
